Plates Shaped

2012-06-04

In the course of 3 days I was able to completely form the outsides of all 4 plates. The spruce cuts like butter, so it was no problem to quickly approach the right shapes, then get a nice smooth and consistent form. The maple on the other hand, took much more time. The birdseyes in the larger plate were particularly challenging. However, the end result is a piece with lots of character.

I also trimmed all the edges to final thickness and laid out the "F" holes. On the larger instrument I interpolated the locations based on the overall length. This instrument will be unique, following no single classic pattern.
